Here is the verse…
Pass through the host, and command the people, saying, Prepare you victuals; for within three days ye shall pass
over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which YHWH your Mighty One giveth you to possess it. Joshua 1:11
If I said nothing, this man's error would be upon my head (and multiplied if anyone accepts it). He made three
mistakes here. 1. He apparently believes that the Creation Calendar is not sufficiently defended in Scripture, 2. the
math he employed to come up with Abib 8 as the day to prepare victuals, and 3. he got caught speaking out of both
sides of his mouth. I will respond to each number below…
1. I know that, whatsoever the Almighty doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from
it: and the Almighty doeth it, that men should fear before him. Ecclesiastes 3:14. See also Psalm 119:89, 152,
160; Psalm 148:3-6, Psalm 89:37, Psalm 93:5, Psalm 117:2, Isaiah 45:18, and Proverbs 3:19.
The Creation Calendar is the only one used in Scripture, so all examples will attest to it. For example, there are the
three Sabbaths falling on the 15th of the month for 3 consecutive months. The Creation Calendar Sabbath is also
defended by the inclusion of date specific work days on Abib 10, 14 and 16. The former proves the Creation
Calendar; the latter defends the Creation Calendar from all others.
2. This fellow used the following illustration to show that Israel was commanded to prepare victuals on the 8th day of
the month… 8 - 9 - 10. It would be nice to agree, but he flunked a simple math problem.
Joshua 1:11 says that on a certain day Joshua gave the command to prepare food because within three days they
would cross the Jordan. This fellow then showed us in Joshua 4:19 that Israel indeed entered the land on the 10th
day of the month.
Very cleverly, this fellow used “inclusive reckoning” from day 10 (counting backward) to prove that Israel prepared
the food on the 8th. My response, if the command was given on the 8th, then count forward three days from the
8th. 8 + 3 = 11, not 10. The 10th of Abib is TWO days later, not three as this uninspired colleague alleges. Time
and “inclusive reckoning” only works in one direction: forward, never backward.
3. This fellow spoke out of both sides of his mouth. He gave an illustration for I Samuel 20 (which I believe this is a
two day new moon, he disagrees, saying that this is a one day new moon followed by day two of the month rather
than the second day of new moon as I believe). He then used the following illustration to prove his point…
29 - 1 - 2 - 3
We both agree that David and Jonathan are speaking on the 29th day of the month, making a pact that in three
days Jonathan would shoot some arrows indicating whether David should flee or not. Notice that three days from
the 29th is day 3 of the month. Why does this fellow need four numbered days to count forward three days, but only
three numbered days to count backward three days as he did above when he thought to convince you that 8 + 3 =
10? He is speaking out of both sides of his mouth to prove his own conclusion rather than letting Scripture speak
for itself.
My point: We both agree that David and Jonathan were making their pact on the 29th day of the month. We both
agree that the arrows were shot 3 days later, but I believe it was 29 - 30 - 1 - 2 (that day 30 and day 1 were new
moon days), not 29 - 1 - 2 - 3 as my friend here attests. Either way we are agreed that it was three days later.
And he used this point forcefully in an attempt to disprove the Creation Calendar. Interestingly, the fellow bringing
this argument admits Israel is using a lunar calendar, just not for Sabbaths.
His math for I Samuel 20 is inconsistent and undoes his count in Joshua 1:11.
My friend did not use inclusive reckoning when counting forward three days for the passage in I Samuel 20, but was
forced to use it for Joshua 1:11 in order to make his point, but made the mistake of trying to use it to count
backward, which never works. It was on the 7th (not the 8th as my colleague alleges) when Joshua said that Israel
should prepare food for within three days they would enter the land. He should have employed this illustration of
days… 7 - 8 - 9 - 10. Make food today (the seventh) for within three days you will cross this Jordan. From day
7, count three days. You end up on day 10, the same day it is recorded that Israel entered the land. Israel fixed
food on the 7th and rested on the 8th.
You decide if this fellow is rightly dividing the Word.
24. In Joshua 1:11, on the 8th day of the month Israel was commanded to prepare victuals
before entering the land of Promise on Abib 10. So the 8th cannot be a Sabbath because
YHWH would never ask Israel to cook on the Sabbath.
