This is simply disingenuous. Let me point out Leviticus 23:34-41. No less than three times this passage says that
the feast of Tabernacles is a seven day feast. Please read verses 34, 39 and 41. This feast starts on the 15th,
ends on the 21st. The eighth day is just that, the 8th day, an addition to the original seven day feast. It falls on the
22nd of the seventh month and it happens to be the Sabbath (every year). Those who present this argument wrest
Scripture to prove their point. So these folks take Scripture JUST as it reads?
It does not matter that Josephus called Tabernacles an 8 day feast. Seventh-day Adventist author Ellen White
called Passover an 8 day feast when clearly it is only a one day feast. There were 8 days in all, but Scripture calls
BOTH feasts seven day feasts. So they are seven day feasts, period, end of discussion.
In the fourteenth day of the first month at even is YHVH's passover.
And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread unto YHVH: seven days ye must eat
unleavened bread. Leviticus 23:5-6
Looks like this:
And YHVH spake unto Moses, saying,
Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, The fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the feast of tabernacles
for seven days unto YHVH.
On the first day shall be an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.
Seven days ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto YHVH: on the eighth day shall be an holy convocation unto
you; and ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto YHVH: it is a solemn assembly; and ye shall do no servile work
therein. Leviticus 23:33-36
Looks like this:
The feast of Passover is 1 + 7 = 8, Tabernacles is 7 + 1 = 8. We know the beginning date, so we know the end of
each.
The reason behind this argument is the effort to prove that there is a sabbath on the 23rd of the month, which would
wreck the 8, 15, 22, 29 pattern espoused by Creation Calendar observers. Let's examine the evidence, shall we?
In John 7:22-23 Jesus refers to another lunar Sabbath. The 8th day is a Hebrew idiom (expression) that refers to
the weekly Sabbath. The weekly Sabbath is the 8th day of the month, and also the 8th day of the Feast of
Tabernacles.
John 7:37 – Jesus spoke during the last great day (John 7:2 says this was the feast of Tabernacles.)
John 7:43-53 – There was contention between the people and the religious authorities. After which every one went
home.
John 8:1 – Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.
Scripture says that Tabernacles is a seven day feast:
Leviticus 23:34-36 says that Tabernacles begins on the 15th day of the seventh month and is a seven day feast.
Count the days…
The EIGHTH day spoken of was in addition to the seven days of the feast. The eighth day would be the 22nd day of
the seventh month. Let’s see what Scripture calls this “eighth” day of the feast.
Now watch… Remember the carpenter from Nazareth spoke on the last great day of a SEVEN day feast…
John 8:2 – The next day (the 22nd of the month), Jesus returned to the temple. (Why?) There, another lengthy
debate took place…
John 8:59 – …After which Jesus was nearly stoned, but He passed through…
John 9:1 – as Jesus left the temple, He passed by a blind man….read John 9:14.
And it was the sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.
The eighth day of the feast was the 22nd day of the month, and the weekly Sabbath, which is why everyone
returned to the temple. If the 22nd is the Sabbath, by default the 8th, 15th and 29th days of the month are also
Sabbaths.
The 22nd day of the seventh month was not part of Tabernacles. How do we know? We are to dwell in booths for
seven days of Tabernacles (Leviticus 23:42). The 8th day falls OUTSIDE that range. The 8th day was an
additional day, not part of Tabernalces, no different than Passover was not a day of Unleavened Bread, it was a
preparation day FOR the seven day feast.
Here is the coup-da-gras. Please read II Chronicles 7:8-10...
Also at the same time Solomon kept the feast seven days, and all Israel with him, a very great congregation, from
the entering in of Hamath unto the river of Egypt.
And in the eighth day they made a solemn assembly: for they kept the dedication of the altar seven days, and the
feast seven days.
And on the three and twentieth day of the seventh month he sent the people away into their tents, glad and merry in
heart for the goodness that YHVH had shewed unto David, and to Solomon, and to Israel his people.
Israel and Solomon observed the SEVEN days of the feast (15-16-17-18-19-20-21). Next followed the 8th day, a
day of sacred assembly (the 22nd day of the month), and on the day after (the 23rd) Solomon sent everyone home.
Once again, there is always harmony in the truth.
25. The feast of Tabernacles is an 8 day feast meaning that the Sabbath mentioned in
John 9:14 is the 23rd day of the seventh month, rather than the 22nd.
